iTeam Projects

This page establishes a simple list of project ideas that user communities might find useful. A list like this is simple to implement and should serve to help identify elements that need to be included in a fully developed tool/service. This list is not complete in any sense; we are just priming the pump. The most important ideas will be those of the iTeam members. If you have ideas about projects, please add them if you are able or let the iTeam Leadership group know what you'd like to see and how we can help to make it happen.

Active

Computer Lab Assistance

Three eighth-grade students are coming to the Middle School Lab and provide assistance to the community and lab staff. They provide iTeam leaders with valuable student perspectives on a range of issues. We are starting to live the changes we wish to see.

TechYES Peer Mentoring

We selected the TechYES program as a core activity of iTeams activity. It is project-based learning with authentic self-, peer-, and mentor-assessment.

Potential

iTeams at Elementary Schools

Mr. Jenkins, Principal at Bowdoin Central School, has expressed interest in starting an iTeam at his school, too. Some Middle School or High School iTeam members may want to help BCS or other elementary schools to start iTeams. Team members will need to learn how the iTeams function and learn to be Peer Mentors.

We will also need some resources to help extend the program. The McKeen Center for the Common Good at Bowdoin College has recently announced the 2008-09 Common Good grant program. iTeam members interested in this project may want to apply for a grant to support their work with one or more elementary schools. Perhaps Bowdoin students associated with the McKeen Center might be willing to help mentor iTeam members through the application and implemenation. They will provide a free-grant writing workshop that iTeam members could attend on Friday, January 9, 2009. The applications are due on January 30, 2009.

iTeam ID Logo

iTeam members need some way to identify themselves distinctively. We have considered creating tee-shirts or clip-on IDs. What kind of logo will help to establish our identity in our communities?

iTeam records database

As our projects and participation grow, we will need ways to keep track of people, resources, activities, ... How can we use technology to support our work?

Video documentation of 21st Century Learning

We have been invited by the new Center for Digital Learning to produce short video clips of students, teachers and others about their 21st Century learning experiences. They want to use the clips on their soon-to-be-released web site. Ambient Awareness, an MSAD 75 band and production team shared this example:

Building our Web 3.0 community

Sally Loughlin regularly reminds us that we need better ways to visualize data to make more compelling cases for change. She uses Hans Rosling's GapMinder presentation at TED as a reference. How can we move toward this goal?

Metaweb provides tools that iTeam members can conceivably use to help create powerful representations of our communities that will help to develop our capacity to support learning for all students. David's demo of the Parallax browser hints at the potential:

Freebase Parallax: A new way to browse and explore data from David Huynh on Vimeo.

Look at MSAD 75 and Topsham on Freebase to see how it can apply to our context. Note that the information about Topsham includes population over the years from 2001 through 2005. If iTeam members became proficient contributors and analysts of Freebase data, imagine what it would mean for supporting Inquiry Projects for the MSAD 75 Summer Technology Institute.

Build a iTeams Project Database

Convert this page-based list of projects to an online form and database of projects that can be organizied in interesting ways. It should include several fields for each record including: Name of the person making the request, a description of the project, an estimate of the degree of difficulty, contact information, name of the person or group who chooses to work on the project, link to the project site, ... . - SC Spaeth, this entry, moderately challenging for beginners but straightforward for experience forms users, spaeths [at] link75 [dot] org

Establish/develop a network group

Choose a topic great interest to you that may attract others to participate and demonstrate the power of learning networks.

iTunes user support

Ms. Wright in the Middle School said we need a project like this.
