Mission and Expectations for Student Learning Recommendations
1. Teach students connections between daily teaching and learning and school's mission and expectations for student learning.
2. Develop and implement a common rubric for each academic expectation to assess student achievement.
3. Clearly define whether MTA will use MLR or school-generated academic expectations to measure student achievement.
4. Become a mission driven school by ensuring that all policies, procedures and decisions are based on the beliefs and values expresses in the mission statement.
5. Identify specific data for the review process to determine the extent to which the school is fulfilling the mission.
6. Revise the mission review process to allow for timely amendments and / or revision
Curriculum ....Recommendations
1. Align the curriculum with the academic, social and civic expectations of the mission statement.
2. Develop, coordinate, and implement a technology curriculum that is vertically aligned.
3. Provide professional development to all teachers so they can effectively integrate a technology into the curriculum to improve both teaching and learning.
4. Continue and expand cross-content curriculum integration.
5. Ensure adequate access to technology and related equipment to allow for effective delivery of the curriculum.
Instruction....Recommendations
1. Ensure that all students in all classes are afforded an equal opportunity to access teaching strategies that promote higher order thinking.
2. Ensure that all teachers have access to technology and the required training to use the technology to support effective teaching and learning and to better prepare students for their futures.
3. Develop and use a supervision and evaluation process that holds all teachers to a consistent clear standard for effective teaching to better meet the needs of all students.
4. Incorporate into school-wide professional development opportunities that most current and effective teaching strategies.
Leadership and Organization
1. Increase opportunities for participation in decision-mking roles accorded to students and parents.
2. Better align Mt. Ararat's schedule with the schedule of Maine Vocational Region # 10.
3. Ensure that grouping patterns provide equal opportunity for all students to engage in problem-solving activities and higher order thinking skills.
School Resources for Learning
1. Expand the access to homework assignments on the school's website.
2. Ensure that all teachers contribute to the posting of information on the school's website in a timely manner.
3. Develop and implement a plan to address the perceptions about the library and to increase the use of that facility to support teaching and learning.
4. Make effective use of the staff within the health services department and clearly prioritize job responsibilities to meet the needs of students.
5. Development and implement and evaluation process for all student support services, programs, personnel to ensure they meet the needs of students.
6. Increase the collaboration of the library media specialist with teachers and information technology IT personnel to maximize the available resources to better serve both students and teachers.
7. Ensure that the guidance department is meeting the needs of students and parents.
