- increase wireless coverage
- laptops for teachers...goal 50% by the end of next year
- keep labs ...change over to terminals
- 3 to 4 mini-notebooks per classroom
What are your clarifying questions about these strategies?
Safety issue? Laptops at this time are all in locked carts at night...the mini-notebooks? T.F.
What possible connections to improving learning can you make?
Having the mini notebooks in the classrooms, if they are deemed appropriate, would be a great help for several reasons:
*utilize as a center activity for a small group of learners
*allow teachers close physical proximity as opposed to the "in the hall" lab at BHM cutting down on discipline issues, lost time back and forth
*always ready, as opposed to the cart, which requires movement, plug-ins, log-ons, and as mentioned loses classtime
*small enough to fit in the classroom environment...as opposed to two large desktop computers...4 small units would take even less space T.F.
* Foster "flexible thinking" by not being tied to one OS solution.
* Encourage Digital Citizenship ideals on a semi-daily basis.
What competing initiatives or practices create distractions?
* Linux's ability to run Read 180 and Lexia?
What possible leverage points can you think of?.... who might help with this or be most receptive to the idea?
